Containers Dimensions and Weight
Cargo containers come in all different sizes to accommodate an individual’s cargo needs.
There are three common sizes of International Organization of standardization (ISO) cargo containers.
The three cargo container lengths are 20 feet, 40 feet, and 45 feet; the width and height of all these containers are commonly 8 feet by 8.5 feet, respectively.
Heights vary on specialized cargo containers from as short as 4.25 feet up to 9.5 feet. The most common cargo container size is 40 feet.

The Maximum Gross Weights (MGW) is the weight of the container and the cargo loaded; in keeping with normal practice, gross, net and tare weights are defined as follows:
R = P + T
Ris the maximum permissible gross weight of the container including cargo
Pis the maximum permissible payload (maximum net weight)
Tis the weight of the empty container (tare weight).
Types of Container
Cargo containers come in all different shapes to accommodate an individual’s cargo needs.
According to ISO 4346 of January 1996, a distinction may be drawn between the following types:
General purpose containers
Dry bulk containers/bulk containers
Named cargo containers
Thermal containers
Open-top container
Platform containers
Tank containers
Air/surface containers
1- General purpose containers.
used to carry general cargo
2- Bulk containers
used to carry bulk materials and it have circulars on top side used for loading and one door for discharging
3- Ventilation container
used for carry cargo require ventilation systems so it is equipped with ventilation system
4- Open-sided containers
it is must to have one open side gate and it is used to carry livestock
5- Open-top containers
used to carry cargo which is not fitted with the general purpose container
6- Half-height containers
used to carry high density cargo suck as steel roods and to avoid wasting in the space of container
7- Flat-rack containers
containers with no sides or tops. used for unusually large or awkward loads.
8- Refrigerated containers
used to carry refrigerated cargo such as frozen meat or frozen fish and it is equipped with
